To keto or not to keto….

After 4 years of following the same meal plan, I plateaued, I was stumped and worst of all…bored.

Then I stumbled on a Facebook Live video and decide it’s a sign <queue twinkle of brilliance>

It’s a special invite JUST FOR ME (and a hundred or so other people) to join a Diet Beta Test.

I think: Whynot? and go to the website and sign up IMMEDIATELY!

Maybe I should have read more about it first because upon further research, it’s a version of the ketogenic diet!! No bread. No pasta…and worst of all…no potatoes!

My meal plan has been turned upside down!! I went from eating c-o-n-s-t-a-n-t-l-y to only eating for 6 hours a day! I went from having 2 servings of carbs to basically none! And I’ve gone from a teeny tiny bit of healthy fat to LOTS!! Bring on the bacon! The book Keto Clarity: Your Definitive Guide to the Benefits of a Low-Carb, High-Fat Diet is a great book to get more info.

But…if it works, it will be worth it…and who doesn’t want to serve as an example?! 🙂

We eased into the test by cutting our eating window down by an hour each day for 7 days, or until we were at a 6 hour eating window. No food after 7pm. I am a snacker, but I can do this…for a couple of weeks anyway.

In the end, in one week, I lost 7 POUNDS!!! That’s AMAZING! I can’t wait to see what Week 2 brings!

Week 2

While only eating in our 6 hour window, we changed our food to have macros to 75% fat, 10% carbs and 15% protein. NOT EASY for someone who limited themselves to 8 almonds a day! Because I’m an analyst, I totally have to be sure my keytones are in check and sure enough…I’m at 1.7. What does it all mean? Having your keytones between 1 – 2 means your body is burning fat!

Fat in and fat out.

My new snack are these fat bombs – coconut oil, almond butter and cacao mixed with some coconut oil. On a side note, who the hell calls fit food FAT BOMBS? This was my first try and if I keep going, I will experiment with my treats!

I have to give a shout out to the hubs. He is not doing this with me, but is more than supportive and is all-in to helping me meal plan!

At the end of week 2, I am down 11 POUNDS!!

Week 3

No more Mr Nice Guy…Week 3 means NO FOOD….AT ALL…FOR 3 DAYS!

This is based on The Complete Guide to Fasting: Heal Your Body Through Intermittent, Alternate-Day, and Extended Fasting

Day 1 of the fast – started out fine. I’m used to not eating until 1, so the morning was OK. Then my coworker brought out the BIG KAHUNA of treats…Cadbury Mini Eggs, 10-Ounce Bag (Pack of 3)! What the HELL?!

Deep breath.

Repeat after me: I CAN do this! I MUST, I MUST!

And…I DID! I held strong and didn’t eat ANY MINI EGGS!

Going into Day 2, they say it’s the worst…I’ll let you know!

Day 2!!

PFFFHHHHLLLLTTT! Hard smard! Day 2 was a walk in the PARK compared to Day 1!!

I woke up, down 2 pounds and smiled! Then on my way to work , I won Bon Jovi tickets for my sister and I!! AWESOME!

No headache today, belly was grumbly but not too bad. My keytones are only .8 I wonder if this is because of the total lack of food. I expected to be at like a 2.5 or something unreal like that.

Anywhooo, we had “book club” tonight which really turned into dinner and drinks. It was fun and even though the smell of fajitas gnawed at me, I had black coffee and water.

So to this, I declare Day 2 a success and look forward to my last day and food on Thursday!

Day 3

I checked my keytones this morning and it was 3.7!! Woooo, I feel so much better now!

I was super hungry and a little light headed today, but generally OK. I kept busy and didn’t give in…even to the cookies in my 3 hour meeting!

Yay for food tomorrow!! Come one 7am!! Ha!

Tomorrow, my meals will be:
7am: Almonds and chicken broth
10am: Almonds and chicken broth
1pm: Salad
4pm: Fat bomb, celery
7pm: Butter chicken (it’s date night!)

I am so stocked for 7am!!
